In the summer prior to my senior year of high school I was accepted into the Kenan Fellows program at the Scripps Research Institute (TSRI). At TSRI, I worked in the Thompson Lab on a variety of tasks in support of ongoing research in the area of anti-cancer and anti-rheumatoid arthritis chemotherapeutics. In this role, I produced and analyzed PAD3 Proteins that could be used in future testing of PAD3 inhibitors using different assays. At the end of the summer I presented my work in a 10-minute speech given to my coworkers, peers and the fellowship program leads. Through my work at TSRI, I gained further experience with, chemistry lab procedures, gel electrophoresis, science communication and more.
